📖 Real Story: How We Helped Maria
Maria, a single mother of two, received an eviction notice giving her just 2 weeks to leave her home. Her landlord was selling the property and she had nowhere to go. Maria called our advice line in tears.
“I didn’t know what to do. I thought we’d be on the streets. The advisor explained my rights clearly and helped me fight the eviction. We got it delayed by 3 months, which gave me time to find somewhere else. They even helped me apply for emergency housing. I can’t thank them enough.”
Outcome: Eviction delayed, emergency housing secured, family stayed together. This is what we do every day.

Common Questions
❓ Do I need to live in London to get help?
Anyone in the UK can call our advice line (0800 123 4567) for free telephone advice and information. For face-to-face casework, legal clinic, and representation services, we prioritize residents in our core service areas (Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Newham, Islington, Camden). However, if you’re in another London borough and facing a serious urgent issue, contact us anyway – we may still be able to help or refer you to the right organization.
❓ Is your service really free? What’s the catch?
Yes, completely free. No catch. We’re a registered charity funded by donations, grants, and partnerships. We’ll never charge you for advice, casework, or legal representation. We don’t means-test you or ask about your income. If you need help, we’re here – that’s it.
❓ How long does casework take?
It depends on the complexity of your case. Simple issues (like writing a letter to your landlord) might be resolved in 2-4 weeks. Medium-complexity cases (like benefits appeals) typically take 6-12 weeks. Complex housing or legal cases can take 3-6 months, especially if they go to tribunal. We’ll give you realistic timescales after your initial assessment and keep you updated throughout.
❓ What if my issue is urgent? I need help NOW.
Call our advice line immediately: 0800 123 4567 (Monday-Friday 9am-5pm). Tell them it’s urgent. If you’re facing homelessness within 48 hours, we can fast-track your case and may be able to get emergency support in place the same day. If it’s outside office hours and you’re in immediate danger, call 999 or contact your local council’s emergency housing team.
❓ What happens to my information? Is it confidential?
Yes, everything you tell us is confidential. We won’t share your information with anyone without your permission, except in very rare circumstances where we’re legally required to (e.g., if we believe a child is at serious risk of harm). We don’t share your details with immigration enforcement, housing benefit investigators, or any other authorities without your explicit consent.
❓ I don’t speak English very well. Can you still help?
Yes. We have advisors who speak several languages, and we can arrange interpreters for over 100 languages. Just call our advice line and let us know which language you need – we’ll arrange an interpreter for your call or appointment at no cost to you.
❓ Can you represent me in court?
For housing tribunals and some benefits tribunals, yes – our trained caseworkers can represent you. For court cases (like eviction hearings in county court), we can refer you to partner solicitors who may be able to help through legal aid. Call us to discuss your specific situation.
❓ What if I’ve already been evicted? Is it too late?
It’s never too late to get advice. Even after eviction, you may have rights to challenge it, claim compensation, or get help with rehousing. Call us as soon as possible – the sooner you contact us, the more options you’ll have.
